This stunning dish with vintage lace pattern imprint puts a modern and elegant twist on the lace doily, bringing the gorgeous texture back to life.
Each dish is hand made by pressing a vintage lace doily into the clay whilst wet, leaving the detailed imprint of the lace behind. A coral red underglaze is applied in a watercolour-like manner, then sponged away in places to create subtle variation and highlight the pattern. Finished with a clear gloss glaze.
inspiration:
"I was originally inspired by a box full of beautifully crafted doilies that I discovered tucked away in a corner at St Vinnies – they had been given away due to some discoloration, yet had such lovely patterns. I started to think of ways I could reuse these little works of art and incorporate them into modern, decorative and functional pieces, revamping them to highlight the beauty of their intricate patterns and texture."
materials:
Hand build using a smooth-textured off-white clay, fired to stoneware temperature for maximum strength. Finished with a lead-free, food-safe clear stoneware glaze.
dimensions:
Approx. 15 x 15cm x 3cm high (6x6x1.2")
