Set of three framed limited edition giclée prints from original illustrations by artist Renée Treml. The original artworks were created using a technique known as scratchboard. For this method Renée starts with a board that has been coated with a thin layer of soft white clay, which is painted with black ink. The ink is then scratched away with a fine blade, revealing the white clay beneath.
“Scratchboard allows me to create very realistic looking animals which I place in very unlikely situations (like a wombat with birds perching on its back). While the process might sound tedious (and sometimes it is), I find it to be an enjoyable process.”
inspiration
“The first time I saw a wombat was just a year ago in a small zoo park in Queensland. Two things stuck with me immediately – one was his bulky, stocky shape, and the other was his ability to sleep, completely oblivious to the people around him. It was very loud in the park, and yet there he was passed out on his back, legs sprawled apart, or on other occasions, curled up in a little ball. I could not help but imagine him trying to nap while being used as a perch for our noisy local birds.”
