Vanessa De Lacy

Artist Vanessa De Lacy grew up in the country in a town called Kyneton, in Victoria Australia. Loving art felt so natural and normal to her, she couldn’t understand how her friends had to drag themselves to art class. “I would try and encourage them to put together art supply boxes full of glue, scissors, buttons, cardboard rolls, sticks, feathers etc to keep at home but they could never understand the appeal ~ I thought it was the greatest fun ever.”

With a bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in painting, completed at R.M.I.T. Melbourne, Vanessa is a mother of 2 beautiful girls and juggles her time between creating her art and entertaining her girls. “I work around the girls, where they are I am with pastel and paper. When I can I have a room/studio where I like to listen to ABC classical and just draw, it’s very peaceful and relaxing.”

Vanessa’s vibrant artworks are created mainly with the use of oil pastels. “When I draw I use oil pastels, they are so soft and buttery and I love the feel of them on the page and the effects I can get with my smudging pencil. My work is currently based on costumed creatures both in my drawings and my dolls. I like the idea of the cross over from childhood to being an adult and the masks that we put on as we get older. We hide our feelings and cover up our true emotions.”
