Sharon Muir

Sharon Muir is a ceramic artist that has exhibited her ceramic sculpture both nationally and internationally. She studied ceramics at RMIT and graduated with a Masters Degree in Fine Art.

Recently she has been creating a range of homewares that exploit her skills in modelling and mould making. The range includes playful little animal pots perfect containers for salt crystals, bits of jewellery or any odds and ends, a pair of trinket boxes mini storage for the coffee table bedroom or bathroom and stylish pots for indoor plants ~ the pebble pots.

Each piece starts out as a hand sculpted original that is then carefully cast in plaster to make a mould. When the mould is dry, liquid clay / slip is used to create a perfect copy of the original sculpture. When it has hardened enough to handle it is removed from the mould, cleaned, allowed to dry then fired for the first time. After the first firing the piece cleaned again and decorated. Glaze is applied to the surface and it is fired a second and final time.
