Sara Brenton is the QLD artist & illustrator behind Herman & Ivy. Currently finishing her graphic design degree at Griffith University, Sara pursues other creative avenues such as painting and drawing in her spare time, filling the need for a more hands-on approach away from the computer.
“I’ve been drawing all my life. I would imagine these great pictures in my mind, and map out the way I’d create them, but when it came to getting it down on paper, it never quite looked the same to me. In 2008 I decided it was time to train myself to actually create them, without just giving up the moment they didn’t look right! I haven’t put down the pencil since and love every minute of it!”
With a previous study in Fashion Design, Sara is mainly inspired by the latest trends in fashion, and draws her creativity from fashion magazines such as Lula, Yen and Vogue. She loves to experiment with different styles, creating most of her pieces through a combination of original drawings and paint on watercolour paper.
“I draw and shade in pencil, and colour using either ink or watercolour. I love the way ink and watercolour can be layered and added to, and it always creates different colours. You know the approximate colour that will come out, but it’s always going to be a little bit different.
