Artist Hana Rajkovic was born in Belgrade, Serbia from artist parents. Having lived in Belgrade and on the Croatian coast for most of her life, she has traveled much of Europe before moving to Brisbane, Queensland with her husband in 2009. “I’m enjoying all of Australia’s charm, colours and beauty. I’m trying to breathe in as much of Queensland as I can and to make it a part of what I do.”
“Having a painter for a mother and a sculptor for a father has always meant having a lots of artist’s materials and inspiration around to create a stuff of my own. I graduated painting from Belgrade’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 2002. and I have been working as a freelance artist ever since. I received my PhD in painting in 2006.”
Hana’s inspiration comes from landscapes that surround her, from everyday experiences, and energy & atmosphere of what she sees, feels or hears. “Someone’s interesting story can also be a starting point for a new creation.”
“I work both on my paintings and my drawings as separate art forms. Through both of these forms I create pictures of landscapes, cityscapes or their extractions, as well as home interiors. All these places seen in my work are built from real elements I have seen or heard of, but what I do is arranging them and putting together into order that creates powerful and magical atmosphere. What I try to do is to make each of my works as an oasis of positive energy that is aimed to transmit to its observer.”
Hana received the first prize at the 2010 Linden Postcard Show with her work ‘It’s Like Peanut Butter’.
