Brisbane-based artist Jessica Van Den began creating jewellery in 2008, and after taking a silversmithing course in 2009, knew she had found her passion. Since then, Jess has been creating primarily in sterling silver, with the occasional foray into brass, copper, aluminium, and the use of gems and beads.

“My style is very minimalist and modern. I enjoy creating jewellery that will remain stylish for a lifetime – pieces that the wearer will find themselves coming back to again and again. Most of my work is meant to be ‘everyday’ wear – I have so many customers that tell me that their pair of Urban Eco Earrings have become the ones they wear every day!”

Currently creating her jewellery at her Brisbane home, Jess is planning a big adventure with her husband, and will be spending a big part of 2010-2011 travelling around Australia in a custom-built campervan. “My studio will be a small table wherever we find ourselves – hopefully next to a lovely beach most of the time!”

Jessica’s favourite material is sterling silver. The majority of the sterling Jess uses is 100% recycled, sourced from an Australian company. “I love knowing that the material I’m using is eco-friendly, and helping to use silver from reclaimed sources.”
